Afenifere Urges NSA to Enhance Security Collaboration with State Governors

The pan-Yoruba political organization, Afenifere, has called for stronger collaboration between the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, and state governors to address Nigeria’s escalating security challenges.

In a communiqué released after its caucus meeting at the residence of Afenifere Leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the group urged the Federal Government and security agencies to restructure the country’s security framework. The aim, they said, should be to enable security leaders to better understand the root causes of insecurity and take decisive actions to address them.

The meeting highlighted that restructuring is essential for addressing Nigeria’s socio-political and economic challenges. Afenifere expressed deep concern over the rising instances of kidnapping and extrajudicial killings, stressing the need for urgent intervention.

“Afenifere again calls on the Federal Government and security agencies to redesign the security architecture so that those in charge of security can dig deeper into its causes and deal with them decisively,” the statement read.

The group also recommended that state governors, particularly in Yorubaland, enhance regional security networks like Amotekun. Afenifere proposed boosting the numbers, training, motivation, and access to modern technology, such as drones, to tackle the growing terrorism threat.

Furthermore, Afenifere reiterated its support for the creation of state police and the restructuring of Nigeria, urging President Bola Tinubu to use his democratic influence to accelerate progress toward true federalism.

The organization also congratulated Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade on his installation as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo and expressed condolences to Oyo State Governor Engr. Oluwaseyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State on the passing of former Governor Victor Omololu Olunloyo. Afenifere thanked President Tinubu for addressing the issues raised during their visit to the presidency last year.
