Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has categorically denied reports suggesting he is planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The clarification came on Thursday through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, who described the rumour as a deliberate falsehood fabricated by the opposition.
The reports stemmed from claims attributed to the Osun State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that Governor Adeleke was in talks with former Osun governor and current ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, about defecting.
In a strongly worded statement, the Osun State Government dismissed the claims, insisting there was no negotiation, discussion, or political alignment between Adeleke and Aregbesola.
The statement reads:
“Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to the Osun State APC chairman that Governor Ademola Adeleke is negotiating with former Governor Rauf Aregbesola about joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“The report is false and the entire assertions by the opposition are mere fabrication and fake news.
“Governor Adeleke is not negotiating with former Governor Rauf Aregbesola about ADC and the governor is not joining ADC.
“The members of the public are hereby implored to ignore the fake news from the pit of hell.”
The governor’s denial comes amid renewed political speculation in Osun State, as some politicians are believed to be gravitating toward Aregbesola’s political camp.
