Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has confirmed that he is considering dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2026 governorship election, with ongoing consultations underway to determine his next political move.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor acknowledged persistent rumours about his possible defection and said the matter was discussed at a high-level meeting with the Osun PDP leadership caucus.
Rasheed revealed that the caucus, which met at the Government House Banquet Hall, passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Adeleke and pledged loyalty to him regardless of the party he ultimately joins.
“The Osun PDP leadership caucus passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ademola Adeleke, unanimously supporting any decision the governor takes on the growing rumour of defection to another political party,” the statement read.
The governor reportedly briefed party leaders on his political consultations and future considerations. The caucus then issued a communiqué signalling their readiness to follow Adeleke to any political platform of his choice.
The meeting was attended by top-ranking officials from across the PDP structure and Osun State government, including:
- Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi
- Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi
- House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon Adewale Egbedun
- South-West PDP Vice Chairman, Engr Kamorudeen Ajisafe
- Osun PDP Chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi
- Former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola
- PDP National and State Assembly members, commissioners, special advisers, and senior aides
While Adeleke’s next political destination remains unconfirmed, sources have linked him to possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, the governor’s camp maintains that consultations are ongoing and no final decision has been made.
Rasheed concluded, “The governor continues to consult with stakeholders at both the state and national levels before announcing his next political direction.”
