Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, pledging to actively work for the President’s second-term ambition.
The governor said the ongoing crisis over control of local government areas in Osun State would not affect his endorsement, stressing that his political disagreements at the state level do not extend to the presidency.
“We have no problem with President Tinubu. He is our leader. He represents the South West,” Adeleke said. “I restate our endorsement of Mr President for re-election in the best interest of the South West.”
The declaration was made during a meeting with members of his cabinet, special advisers, and key political stakeholders at the Government House in Osogbo. Those present included Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun, and other top officials.
Adeleke also thanked residents for their continued support following his defection to the Accord Party, noting that the party’s influence is expanding across the state. “Osun has become yellow, and this is even spreading beyond the state. Our local chapters are organising weekly activities that are attracting thousands of participants,” he said.
He assured citizens of improved governance if re-elected, promising to deepen development efforts with greater focus on youth, women, and workers, while consolidating gains in infrastructure, agro-industrialisation, education, and healthcare.
The governor directed party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation across all 332 wards and highlight the administration’s achievements ahead of future elections.
Despite his endorsement of Tinubu, Adeleke remains involved in a prolonged political dispute with the All Progressives Congress (APC) over control of local government councils in the state.
The crisis dates back to the October 2022 local government elections conducted under former governor Adegboyega Oyetola. Chairmen elected in that exercise, largely from the APC, resumed office in February 2025 following a Court of Appeal ruling. However, the Adeleke administration conducted a separate election on February 22, 2025, won by candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The dispute has led to violent clashes between supporters of both parties, resulting in multiple fatalities, including a local government chairman, Remi Abbas. Both sides are currently seeking legal validation of their mandates in court.
