Adelabu Denies Resignation Amid 2027 Governorship Speculation

Bolaji Tunji, special adviser on strategic communications to Bayo Adelabu, has denied circulating reports that the minister resigned to contest the 2027 Oyo governorship election.

The clarification followed the viral circulation of a purported resignation letter on Tuesday, which Tunji said did not originate from Adelabu’s office. “He has not resigned. That letter of resignation did not come from his office,” Tunji stated, adding that any decision regarding a governorship bid will be made public “when the time comes.”

Adelabu had previously declared his interest in contesting the 2027 Oyo governorship during a June 2025 meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in the state. The announcement comes ahead of the March 31, 2026 deadline set by President Bola Tinubu for all political appointees seeking elective positions to resign.

Adelabu’s political career includes serving as deputy governor (operations) at the Central Bank of Nigeria in 2018, contesting the Oyo governorship under the APC in 2019, running under the Accord Party in 2022, and returning to APC in 2023 before his ministerial appointment. Despite multiple attempts, he has not yet secured victory against incumbent Seyi Makinde.

This clarification ensures that speculation about Adelabu’s political intentions is addressed while maintaining transparency ahead of the 2027 elections.
