ADC Declares No Preferred 2027 Candidate, Pledges Internal Democracy and Unity

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it has no preferred presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that its immediate priority is to build a credible and broadly accepted political platform for Nigerians.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting with members of the Kogi State chapter in Abuja on Monday, Senator David Mark, the party’s Interim National Chairman, emphasized that no individual holds special privileges within the party.

“The ADC has no preferred or favorite presidential aspirant but has set out to first put out a platform that would be attractive and acceptable to the majority of Nigerians,” Mark stated.

Since the formation of the new opposition coalition, three key political figures have emerged as potential contenders under the ADC umbrella:

  • Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate
  • Peter Obi, former Anambra governor and Labour Party candidate
  • Rotimi Amaechi, former Rivers governor and APC presidential aspirant

Mark assured party members that the ADC will uphold fairness and internal democracy in selecting its presidential candidate.

“I don’t own this party more than any of our members. We are all equal joiners and equal owners,” he said.
“We must first build the party before we talk of ambition. Nigeria is like a great ship in trouble, and if we don’t rise now, we may all sink with it.”

The former Senate President urged members to set aside personal differences and unite, stressing that the real enemy is the ruling APC’s failure in governance, not fellow opposition leaders.

“If they promised to fix insecurity and have made it worse, should Nigerians continue to support them? The answer is no,” he said.

Mark reaffirmed the coalition’s determination to rescue Nigeria from economic hardship, insecurity, and bad governance, promising that the ADC would present a principled, people-centered alternative to the electorate in 2027.
