Adamawa Governor Fintiri Approves N70,000 Minimum Wage for State, LGA Workers

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved a new national minimum wage of N70,000 for workers on both the state and local government payrolls in Adamawa State.
Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), shared this development in an interview following a closed-door meeting with the governor in Yola on Monday.
According to Fashe, state government employees will begin receiving their salaries with the new minimum wage in August 2024. Local government workers are expected to see the adjustment reflected in their September salaries.
The implementation will follow the consequential adjustment table used in 2019, pending the release of the updated table from the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission. Fashe explained, “Whatever the worker was earning under the current national minimum wage of N32,000 in Adamawa State will be proportionally adjusted according to the new wage.”
He emphasized that Governor Fintiri’s commitment to the welfare of workers is evident in this early implementation of the new minimum wage, demonstrating his dedication to improving the financial well-being of state employees even before the national adjustment table is made available.
