On Wednesday, Kayode Egbetokun, the recently appointed acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), resumed his official duties at the Force headquarters in Abuja.
Around noon, Egbetokun, the 22nd IGP, formally took over from the outgoing IGP, Usman Alkali Baba.
It would be recalled President Bola Tinubu appointed Egbetokun as IGP in an interim capacity on Monday.
The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, then presented him with his new rank on Tuesday at the State House in Abuja.
Speaking on Wednesday during his official resumption to the office, IGP Egbetokun pleaded with all stakeholder involved to work together to maintain a police force that reflects the goals and values of the community it serves.
In Lagos State, Egbetokun served as the former Police Commissioner.He worked for President Tinubu as his Chief Security Officer in 1999, while the latter was the Governor of Lagos State.
On March 3rd, 1990, Kayode Egbetokun enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a course 16 cadet assistant superintendent of police.
The active acting IGP has an MBA from Lagos State University, a master’s in science in engineering analysis from the University of Lagos, a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, and a Bsc (ed) in Mathematics from the University of Lagos.
Acting IG Egbetokun has held sensitive positions within the Force and served in a number of commands. Some of these postings include Commander Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Lagos, 2005 to 2007, Squadron Commander 5 PMF Benin, Benin City, OC Anti Fraud FCT Command, CSP “A” Lagos State Command, Area Commander Oshogbo, Osun State, Area Commander Gusau Zamfara State, Commandant Police Training School, Ikeja, Lagos, He was Falomo Lagos, CP (Admin) Medical. Additionally, he has taken several courses both locally and internationally.
