Former Kogi West Senatorial District lawmaker Dino Melaye has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will leave office after the 2027 general elections.
Melaye made the remark in a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, amid renewed attention to an alleged drug-trafficking case involving the President in the United States.
The former lawmaker also drew a comparison between Nigeria and Venezuela, suggesting that events surrounding former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro could be repeated in Nigeria.
His comments followed reports that a US court had given attorney Jeanine Pirro additional time to release records relating to the alleged drug-trafficking case involving Tinubu.
US District Judge Beryl Howell reportedly granted Pirro four additional days on Tuesday to release the records.
The development has renewed public discussion around the allegations involving the Nigerian President, although the claims remain the subject of legal and political controversy.
Reacting to the development, Melaye wrote:
“Home is calling. Work plenty for home. Tinubu must go. Venezuela go happen for Naija.”
His reference to Venezuela comes after the United States announced the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in January 2026 over alleged drug and weapons-related charges.
Melaye’s statement therefore links the ongoing US legal developments concerning Tinubu with his prediction of a political change in Nigeria after the 2027 elections.
