Federal prosecutors have urged the court to deny Sean Combs’ new bail application, arguing that the music mogul poses “serious risks of danger and obstruction” in his ongoing criminal sex trafficking case.
In an overnight court filing, prosecutors alleged that while in jail, Combs has engaged in activities designed to undermine the judicial process. These include orchestrating social media campaigns aimed at influencing the jury pool, attempting to publicly release materials favorable to his defense, and using third parties to contact witnesses.
The filing referenced notes found in Combs’ jail cell during a sweep, though their contents were redacted. Prosecutors claimed the notes suggest Combs paid off a witness who subsequently posted a statement on Instagram.
Additionally, prosecutors accused Combs of using the phone accounts of at least eight other inmates at MDC-Brooklyn to bypass law enforcement monitoring. “To obtain or maintain access to other inmates’ [phone access code] numbers, the defendant directs others to pay the inmates, including through payment processing apps and BOP commissary account deposits,” the filing stated.
Prosecutors argued that these actions highlight the significant risk Combs poses if released, as he has allegedly demonstrated an ability to manipulate witnesses and obstruct the case from behind bars.
