Kaduna Governor Pledges Rehabilitation for Pardoned #EndBadGovernance Protesters

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has pledged to rehabilitate and empower #EndBadGovernance protesters from the state who were recently granted a presidential pardon. Speaking through Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu Meyere, Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Governor Sani outlined plans to support the pardoned individuals, contingent upon their responsible and law-abiding behavior moving forward.

Following their release, Dr. Meyere shared that the governor has requested academic credentials from those with tertiary education to explore employment opportunities or other forms of support. “The Governor promised that some of them will receive start-up capital for businesses, others will receive skills training, and some may be considered for employment,” he said.

Meyere further explained that the state government has documented the details of the 39 former detainees, including their contact and next-of-kin information, to track their behavior. Each individual underwent a medical examination and received psycho-social counseling aimed at fostering positive behavioral change. Religious leaders from both the Islamic and Christian communities were also involved, encouraging the former detainees to embrace the teachings of their faith and avoid negative influences.

As a sign of goodwill, Governor Sani provided each individual with a mobile phone and N100,000, acknowledging that many had lost their belongings during detention. Meyere also confirmed that the detainees were safely transported back to their homes.
