Gov. Umo Eno Approves N80,000 Minimum Wage for State Workers

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved a new minimum wage of N80,000 for state government employees. The governor has also established an implementation committee tasked with ensuring the smooth execution of the new wage package. The committee is chaired by the Head of the Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, and has been given a one-month deadline to submit its report on the harmonization of the wage increase.

Speaking to journalists in Uyo, on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong, revealed the committee’s composition. Members include the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Permanent Secretaries from the Ministries of Finance, Labour and Manpower Planning, Justice, and the LGSC, alongside the Accountant General, Director of Budget, and representatives from labor unions such as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

The wage increase aims to improve the welfare of state workers and reflects the government’s commitment to addressing labor demands.
