Yusuf Kibiya Elected New Chairman of PDP in Kano State

Yusuf Kibiya has been elected as the new chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, winning decisively in an election held on Sunday. Kibiya received 3,964 votes, while his opponent, Nura Nuhu, secured just 244 votes. The results were announced by Election Committee chairman Halilu Mazagani.

Kibiya, who previously served as Commissioner for Agriculture under former governor Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso from 1999 to 2003, aims to lead the party through internal challenges and prepare for future electoral contests, particularly the 2027 general elections. In his acceptance speech, he highlighted the party’s commitment to unity and success, stating, “Our party, being the largest in Africa, faces some internal challenges, but we have learned to manage our differences.”

Mazagani supported Kibiya’s message, emphasizing the importance of presenting credible candidates in upcoming elections. Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, a key PDP member and former governor of Kano State, expressed confidence in the party’s readiness to compete against any political rival, including in the local government elections scheduled for October 26, 2024. Shekarau assured supporters of a strong team for the 2027 general elections.
