Ohanaeze Ndigbo Defends Senator Umahi Against Project Allocation Allegations

The Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has responded to claims made by Muhammad Jamil, also known as Jadda Garko, accusing the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, of unfair allocation of road and bridge projects across Nigeria. In a statement released by the Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze dismissed Jamil’s allegations as baseless and defended Umahi’s work.

The statement emphasized that Senator Umahi has been diligently fulfilling his duties under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, working towards Nigeria’s infrastructural development. Ohanaeze highlighted that the Northern region, contrary to Jamil’s claims, has received the largest share of road and bridge projects.

Backed by empirical data, the group revealed that of the 2,735 kilometers of road projects under construction, 1,414 kilometers (52%) are allocated to the North, while 1,321 kilometers (48%) are in the South. Additionally, out of 82 Sukuk-funded projects, 45 are in the North and 37 in the South.

The group also refuted claims of inequity in emergency road projects and road tax credit scheme projects, citing an even-handed distribution across the country. They praised Senator Umahi’s leadership, which has been marked by transparency, fiscal responsibility, and effective project management.
