Authorities in Mexico have discovered three bodies in Baja California, the same region where two Australian brothers and an American went missing.

According to CBS News, the bodies were found in Santo Tomas and have yet to be identified by the FBI. Jake, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, from Perth, along with American Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, disappeared on April 27 while on a surfing vacation near Ensenada.

Mexican police have interrogated a woman and two men in connection with the case. Forensic tests will be carried out by a state laboratory to determine the identities of the bodies, as announced by the Baja California prosecutor’s office.

Arrest warrants for forced disappearance have been issued, following the discovery of abandoned tents, a burned white pickup truck, and a phone linked to the missing tourists.

A search team, including firefighters, has been scouring a remote cliff area for the Robinson brothers and Mr. Rhoad.

The FBI stated to CBS News that they are unable to comment on specifics but are thoroughly assessing every tip. They affirmed their commitment to pursuing credible leads and are in contact with the family of the missing US citizen.

Baja California is known for its violence, attributed to local drug gangs’ turf battles. However, the surfing conditions in Ensenada have attracted tourists from California for years.

Both the US State Department and Australia’s foreign ministry are closely monitoring the situation, with the latter working closely with Mexican authorities and the Australian Federal Police.
