An All-of-society Approach Is Required To End Insecurity In Nigeria -CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Lucky Irabor has said ending insecurity in Nigeria requires a multifaceted approach from all segments of the society.

He said an all-of-society approach is required to end the insecurity bedeviling the country. Irabor, who was represented by the director, Training Defence Headquarters,  Rear Admiral Tanko Pani, spoke at the opening of a two-day workshop, titled: “Use of Broadcasting in Complementing the Military in conflict mitigation and conflict management “.

He said while the role of armed forces in national stability and nation-building cannot be overemphasized, the complex nature of contemporary security challenges requires multi-sectoral and specialized efforts from the society.

Irabor said many militaries including the Armed Forces of Nigeria have over time reviewed their strategies and policies to ensure that “the whole of society approach is given prominence for the effective attainment of military goals and national development objectives.”He said, “National security in Nigeria is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach from all sectors of the society.”

In his remarks, the director-general of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC),   Malam Shehu Balarabe Ilelah called on journalists to avoid using anonymous sources to disclose intelligence to the public.

He said there was the need for the media to support military campaigns aimed at tackling the country’s security challenges.
