Student Assaulted, Set Ablaze By Cultists For Refusing To Join A Cult – UNIOSUN

The management of Osun State University, Osogbo, has said that its security team is working with the police to ensure that suspected cultists who attacked a student of the university, Victor Oke, on Saturday in the Akede area of Osogbo, are apprehended and punished.

Oke, a part-time final-year Political Science student, was pressured to join a cult but rejected, according to a statement released by the varsity Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, in Osogbo on Monday.

When the student didn’t show up for his final paper on Saturday, his parents were contacted, and it was discovered that he had been attacked by cultists, according to Adesoji.

He said, “It was gathered that some of the eyewitnesses living in the area where the incident happened reported that they heard Oke Ademiju Victor shouting that he was not joining their cult, while they continued to hit him with cutlasses, hard stones and attempted to burn him, partially succeeding before he was eventually rescued.

“We have since been following up with the parents and it is confirmed that he was rushed to the university’s teaching hospital for treatment and later moved to an undisclosed hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.”

The victim was assaulted and set ablaze by cult members, according to Punch Metro, and was left for dead until locals came to his aid.
