44 LG Chairmen Take Legal Action Against Kano Govt Over Flyover Construction

The chairmen of the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kano State have filed a lawsuit against the state government in the Federal High Court, Abuja.
They oppose the government’s plan to construct two flyovers in Tal’udu and Danagundi, both within the metropolis, using 70% of the funds from their joint account.
In the case numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/1733/2023 and dated December 29, 2023, the defendants include the Kano State Government, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and the Accountant General of the state. The plaintiffs consist of the 44 Local Government Councils and the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano State chapter.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, during the foundation laying ceremony for the flyovers, defended the financing method.
He stated that it has been a tradition to fund such significant projects through the joint account managed by the state and local governments.
The governor emphasized that upon completion, all local government areas would benefit from the improved roads.
Governor Yusuf highlighted that the flyover projects aimed to enhance socio-economic activities, reduce traffic congestion, facilitate travel, beautify the city, control pollution, and develop infrastructure in Kano.
He stressed the necessity for massive infrastructure transformation in the mega city to meet the needs of its over 10 million inhabitants and enhance their socio-economic well-being.
