2027 Won’t Be Business as Usual, Atiku Vows as Coalition Gains Momentum

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the 2027 general elections will mark a major turning point in Nigeria’s political landscape, as opposition forces coalesce to challenge what they describe as the failure of the current administration.

Atiku made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja during a meeting with North West stakeholders, including Kannywood actors, opinion leaders, and digital influencers. The delegation was led by Dr. Aslam Aliyu of the PAA 2027 New Media & Digital Communications Forum, which is spearheading efforts to mobilise support across northern Nigeria for a united opposition front.

“The envisaged coalition is a deliberate effort to recover and rebuild Nigeria in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people,” Atiku said.

He assured the delegation that the 2027 elections would not follow the “old order,” urging them to sustain public engagement and raise awareness about the coalition’s mission.

“I assured the forum that 2027 will not be business as usual,” he declared.
“We, in the coalition, have the individual and collective capacity to tackle the nation’s insecurity and economic challenges head-on.”

The stakeholders, drawn from the entertainment industry, advocacy groups, and digital media, pledged their support for the initiative. Some admitted regret over backing President Bola Tinubu in 2023 and expressed renewed commitment to a new political direction.

Key issues discussed included the need for intensive voter education, combating misinformation, and building a more coordinated digital campaign strategy ahead of 2027.

The forum, Atiku said, is part of a broader push to build a viable alternative that reflects the concerns of ordinary Nigerians especially in the face of worsening insecurity, inflation, and hardship.

The meeting marks a growing momentum among opposition forces seeking to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with efforts underway to either strengthen existing parties or form a new platform to drive their collective ambitions.
