Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has said he can reset Nigeria within a four-year term if elected president in the 2027 general election.

Makinde made the declaration on Monday at the North Central Town Hall meeting of his campaign in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Describing himself as a “re-setter”, the governor said his proposed agenda would target security, education, the economy and Nigeria’s socio-political environment.

He maintained that the reset agenda could be completed within a single four-year term.

“Listen to me very carefully. The reset agenda can be concluded in four years,” Makinde said.

He cited the actions of a former military head of state who, according to him, took major political decisions within a relatively short period, including ending military rule and ushering in democracy.

Makinde said his administration, if elected, would operate a transitional government of national unity focused on charting a new direction for the country.

“We can reset this country, reset and give Nigeria a new security architecture. Reset and give Nigeria a new path for education. Reset our economy, utilising data science and logic,” he said.

The Oyo governor also argued that effective leadership requires energy and commitment, citing his activities in the 24 hours preceding the town hall.

He said he travelled from Ibadan to Abuja before undertaking a three-and-a-half-hour journey to Lafia, where he continued with engagements until 2am.

Makinde said the outcome of the 2027 election would ultimately depend on Nigerian voters rather than political influence, financial resources or predictions by analysts.

“This election is not going to be determined by the number of billionaires you have in your corner or how much billion you have to spend. This election will be determined by the people of Nigeria,” he said.

He thanked Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and residents for welcoming his campaign team, saying political differences had not prevented them from extending hospitality to his delegation.

Makinde said his proposed reset would seek to establish a new direction for Nigeria through reforms across key sectors, particularly security, education and the economy.
